Hand it out

Publishing and sharing are independent and can both be done for one site. They differ in who pays for downloads and whether access can be withdrawn.

Publish

standalone link

An expiring sialo:// URL. Anyone can resolve it, and viewers pay for their own downloads.

The link stands on its own and cannot be withdrawn once handed out, so treat it as public until its signature lapses. Recipients resolve it through their own indexer account and pay for their own bandwidth.

How long the URL's signature stays valid. It cannot be shortened later.

Share

revocable key

A revocable sharing key, plus a link that loads the site directly. Downloads are billed to you until you revoke it.

Recipients need no indexer account and download on your bandwidth. Revoking the key on the Sharing Keys page cuts off access. The key is labelled with the site name from step 2, which only you can see.

When the key stops working. You can revoke it by hand at any time.

Update Site

Load an existing site by its sialo:// address, manifest ID, or sharing-key seed. Rename, replace, remove, or add files, then hand the result out the same two ways as a new site.

Sharing Keys

A sharing key is a credential you hand to someone else. It covers every object you attach to it, you can revoke it at any time, and downloads through it are billed to your account. A published URL, by contrast, covers one object, expires with its signature, and cannot be withdrawn once sent.
